Mr. Shyam Nokta is a natural resources, environment and climate change consultant with substantial experience in policy, strategy development and implementation. He is the founder and principal of Environmental Management Consultants (EMC), one of Guyana's premier environmental service providers and which offers a range of services including support to meet the requirements of UN Conventions (climate change, biodiversity, land degradation), environmental training and capacity building, senvironmental assessments and environmental compliance support for a wide range of sectors including mining, oil and gas, agriculture, forestry, energy, manufacturing and infrastructure. 

Mr. Nokta previously served within the Office of the President as Adviser to the President and Head of the Office of Climate Change where he played a key role in supporting Guyana's response to climate change and the development and implementation of the country's Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) and Avoided Deforestation (REDD+) Partnership with the Kingdom of Norway. The LCDS has received national and international acclaim.

Nokta has been involved in key conservation initiatives in Guyana having worked with the Iwokrama International Centre and it's programme for biodiversity conservation and management and also providing support to the establishing of Guyana's National Protected Areas System. He also held the position of In- Country Representative of Fauna & Flora International (FFI) and Technical Director of the Guyana Marine turtle Conservation Society (GMTCS).
